February 2023
1. A manuscript should be submitted electronically. EL uses Editorial Manager (EM) to deal with submissions. A contributor should visit the homepage of the ELSJ and log in to EM for EL. The contributor should input the necessary information including the section (Article, Notes and Discussion, or Review Article), the title, the contributor’s name, his/her affiliation, his/her email address, the word count of the main text, and acknowledgments on the author’s (contributor’s) page of EM, and then upload the PDF version of the manuscript (text, reference list, and notes). Embed all fonts in the pdf file, and add a note on the author’s (contributor’s) page of EM if any font other than Times New Roman or Symbol is used. In addition, the file names of every file that the contributor uploads to EM should be in English. Please do not use long file names.
2. The ELSJ secretariat will check the manuscript and within five days of submission, will send the author an e-mail message confirming that it has been received. Contact the ELSJ secretariat and upload the manuscript again if you do not receive the confirmation e-mail message from the ELSJ secretariat; failure to do so may result in your manuscript not being considered.
3. Follow the latest version of the EL style sheet. Especially note the following:
(i) Distinguish underlining from italics (i.e. do not use underlining to indicate italics).
(ii) Distinguish primes from quotation marks.
4. Regarding the English translation of names of research funds to be listed in the acknowledgements, the contributor should cite the expressions officially employed by the funding body. For instance, the contributor should use the official category of the granted KAKENHI (Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research) that is listed on the homepage of JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) (English version). In case the KAKENHI that supports the contributor’s research dates back to the period before the grant was commissioned to JSPS, he/she should consult the homepage of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) for the correct name of the grant.
